There are many questions and misconceptions about the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer the following are some of the Frequently Asked Questions that we get, but if you have a specific question, please contact us and we will respond in a timely manner.

    I'd like to get an Iron Ring. How do I do that?
    In order to get an iron ring, you have to attend and participate in the Obligation Ceremony. If you are not currently in your final year of an accredited Canadian Engineering program, then you must attend the ceremony as a "senior" candidate.

    What is a "Senior" Candidate?
    A "senior" candidate is an individual that meets the following criteria: 1. Did not attend their obligation ceremony at an accredited Canadian Engineering Program. 2. Graduated from an engineering program outside of Canada, but meet the criteria to be licensed by a Provincial Engineering Licensing Body (i.e. Professional Engineers of Ontario) You must provide proof of compliance with the above criteria in order to be considered as a senior candidate.

    Can I invite a guest to give me my Iron Ring?
    Yes, but only an Engineer that has been previously obligated by in the Ritual Calling of an Engineer may give you your Iron Ring. Often times it is a family member, mentor, employer or friend. In order to participate, they must wear their Iron Ring to the event or provide advance proof of their previous obligation.

    Who can attend the Ritual Calling of an Engineer Ceremony?
    Only previously obligated engineers and the newly obligated engineers can attend the Ritual Calling of the Engineer, as it is a private event. Newly Obligated Engineers may invite one guest per person to the reception and dinner, subject to space. Preference will be given to those guests participating in the obligation ceremony.

    What is my Iron Ring no longer fits or is damaged?
    You may contact the camp via to arrange to meet with someone in Guelph to exchange your ring. There is no cost for an exchange. You are not permitted to keep your old ring.

    What is the deadline for senior candidate application to attend a ceremony?
    The date of the next Obligation Ceremony is typically posted on the home page of this website and is generally a Tuesday night in Early March. Applications should be submitted in January and your attendance at the ceremony will be confirmed via email, subject to venue space restrictions.
